Titans Find Success In WIAC Opener

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team opened WIAC play with a 6-3 victory over UW-Stout on Friday (Sept. 6) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

Morgan Counts led the Titans (1-1, 1-0 WIAC) with triumphs at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. She defeated Abby Cornelius, 7-5, 6-2, and teamed with Erica Van Riper to oust Cornelius and Emily Grossen, 8-3. Van Riper also recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win over Molly Denney at No. 4 singles.

UW-Oshkosh's other individual winners were Valerie Langkau in the third flight, Llora Waldman in the fifth and Jessica Stark in the sixth. Langkau marked a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Grossen, while Waldman tallied a 4-6, 6-2 (10-6) win over Emma Pedersen. Stark defeated Cortney Hallahan by a 6-6 (7-5), 6-0 result.

UW-Stout (0-3, 0-2 WIAC) earned two of its team points in doubles action. The Blue Devils received wins from Denney and Annie Lindsay in the second flight and Pedersen and Anna Lano in the third. Denney and Lindsay defeated Langkau and Hannah Bostwick, 8-2, while Lano and Pedersen edged Maggie Bolton and Andrea Larson, 8-6.

Lindsay won on a default over Brianna Theobald at No. 2 singles for the lone UW-Stout victory in singles play.

UW-Oshkosh welcomes a visit to the Kolf Sports Complex from the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Thursday (Sept. 12).
