Titans Get The Better Of Red Hawks

UW-Oshkosh won 10 of 11 events during its 137-64 victory over the Ripon College women's swimming & diving team on Saturday (Feb. 1) in Ripon.

UW-Oshkosh's Sydney Challoner and Mariah Marowsky both claimed two individual wins while working together on a victorious relay squad.

Challoner swam to winning times of 1:01.88 in the 100-yard butterfly and 2:21.78 in the 200-yard individual medley and Marowsky to winning performances of 2:00.24 in the 200- and 5:25.16 in the 500-yard freestyles. They both joined Hannah Cunningham and Rachel Jaworski for a first-place time of 1:45.16 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Cunningham also won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.09 seconds while placing second in the 100-yard butterfly with a swim of 1:03.09. Jaworsky finished second in both the 100- and 200-yard freestyles with times of 59.43 seconds and 2:07.42, respectively.

Titan Rebecca Birriel contributed a first-place time of 1:15.17 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a second-place mark of 2:25.67 in the 200-yard individual medley. She also helped Alyssa Hassel, Jennifer Lutz and Emma Wilcher post a winning time of 2:03.81 in the 200-yard medley relay.

UW-Oshkosh received its remaining two victories from Lutz and Paige Betthauser.

Lutz won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.85 while finishing third in the 50-yard freestyle at 26.94 seconds. Betthauser won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:55.24 while placing fourth in the 500-yard freestyle at 6:03.35.

Hassel added a second-place time of 1:16.84 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a fourth-place time of 2:35.11 in the 200-yard individual medley.

UW-Oshkosh also received a second-place time of 1:09.30 in the 100-yard backstroke from Claypool and fourth-place times of 1:13.47 in the 100-yard butterfly from Wilcher, 12:38.29 in the 1,000-yard freestyle from Brianna Beseler and 1:05.96 in the 100-yard freestyle from Lexi Gray.

The Red Hawks collected their lone victory from Cierra Boutelle in the 100-yard freestyle.

While UW-Oshkosh's swimmers were competing in Ripon, Titans Danielle Tesky and Allison Wucak were diving Saturday at the University of Illinois at Chicago Invitational.

Nearly two dozen NCAA Division I and III divers comprised the field of competitors. No team scores were kept at the meet.

Tesky finished 18th and Wucak 20th in the 3-meter category with scores of 186.10 and 166.25, respectively. Taylor Shegos from NCAA Division I University of Illinois won the event with a score of 292.85.

In the 1-meter diving, Tesky placed 22 and Wucak 23rd with scores of 147.10 and 141.45, respectively. Cydney Liebenberg from NCAA Division I University of Illinois at Chicago captured the event's title with a school-record 312.95 points.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the WIAC Championship on Feb. 13-15 at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer. UW-Oshkosh finished fifth at last year's championship with 296 points.
