A victory in the 13th and final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, gave UW-Oshkosh a thrilling 117-115 win over the Lawrence University women's swimming & diving team on Saturday (Jan. 4) in Appleton.
UW-Oshkosh entered the 200-yard freestyle relay facing a 109-106 deficit, but a first-place time of 1:45.21 by Rebecca Birriel, Sydney Challoner, Rachel Jaworski and Mariah Marowsky helped the Titans outscore the Vikings, 11-6, in the meet's decisive event.
The Titans won six other events, including a pair by Challoner and Marowsky and one each by Birriel and Alyssa Hassel.
Challoner recorded winning swims of 2:21.94 in the 200-yard individual medley and 5:41.72 in the 500-yard freestyle while Marowsky posted first-place results of 54.30 seconds in the 100- and 1:58.06 in the 200-yard freestyles.
Birriel won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.48 while finishing second in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:24.09. Hassel won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:09.24 while placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:17.26.
Titan Danielle Tesky contributed a pair of second-place listings with her scores of 227.55 in the 1- and 229.60 in the 3-meter diving.
UW-Oshkosh also received second-place swims of 26.92 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle from Jaworski and 1:07.00 from Jennifer Lutz in the 100-yard backstroke.
UW-Oshkosh's five third-place finishes featured a pair by Allison Wucak. Wucak earned her results with scores of 191.80 in the 1- and 205.35 in the 3-meter diving.
Other Titans finishing third were Jaworski in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.21 seconds, Cortney Claypool in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:12.15 and Emma Wilcher in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:13.75.
Titans placing fourth were Lutz in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.04, Wilcher in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:24.48 and Brianna Beseler in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 12:42.35.
UW-Oshkosh will host Beloit and St. Norbert colleges next Saturday (Jan. 11) in Albee Hall.
