Marowsky Sets Two School Records At Carthage College Classic

Freshman Mariah Marowsky established a pair of UW-Oshkosh records while winning two freestyle events and placing second in two others at the Carthage College Women's Swimming & Diving Classic held Thursday through Saturday (Dec. 5-7) in Kenosha.

Marowsky defeated 51 other contestants in the 100- and 25 other participants in the 1,650-yard freestyles with her times of 52.80 seconds and 18:04.35, respectively. During the first 1,000 yards of the 1,650 event Marowsky set a UW-Oshkosh record with her time of 10:50.29.

Marowsky earned her second-place freestyle finishes with times of 1:55.79 at 200 yards and 5:18.58 at 500. Her performance in the 200-yard event also created a UW-Oshkosh record.

In the relays, Marowsky helped UW-Oshkosh finish second in both the 400-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle with times of 4:06.47 and 8:05.25, respectively, and third in the 400-yard freestyle at 3:41.32.

Sydney Challoner, Hannah Cunningham and Jennifer Lutz joined Marowsky in the 400-yard medley race while Challoner, Lutz and Rachel Jaworski joined Marowsky in the 800-yard freestyle event. Marowsky's teammates in the 400-yard freestyle swim were Cunningham, Jaworski and Tessa Shorten.

Challoner placed individually in four events, including the 200-yard butterfly where she finished fourth with a time of 2:14.30. Challoner also listed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.02, sixth in the 400-yard individual medley at 4:54.90 and eighth in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:17.02.

Cunningham and teammate Rebecca Birriel contributed a pair of place-winning performances. Cunningham finished seventh in the 100- and eighth in the 50-yard freestyles with times of 56.06 and 25.48 seconds, respectively, while Birriel ranked ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke and 10th in the 400-yard individual medley with swims of 2:37.83 and 5:01.58, respectively.

The Titans also received seventh-place times of 2:03.65 in the 200-yard freestyle from Jaworski and 2:16.98 in the 200-yard backstroke from Lutz.

In the diving, Titan Danielle Tesky finished sixth off both the 1- and 3-meter boards with scores of 315.15 and 284.95, respectively. Allison Wucak placed eighth in the 3-meter category with 277.85 points and 10th in the 1-meter section with 270.85. 

UW-Oshkosh finished fourth among eight programs in the team standings with 1,534.5 points. The Titans were a fifth-place finisher (1,321 points) at last year's meet.

Carthage College scored 3,294 points to successfully defend its team title while Lake Forest College (Ill.) placed second with 1,878, Illinois Wesleyan University third with 1,738 and Carroll University fifth with 1,510.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 3 in Albee Hall.
