Challoner Leads Titans At Carthage College Classic

Sydney Challoner established a school record among her four individual top-five finishes to lead the UW-Oshkosh women's swimming & diving team to a fifth-place ranking at the Carthage College Classic held Thursday through Saturday (Nov. 29-Dec.1) in Kenosha.

Challoner's highest finish was in the 200-yard butterfly, where she placed second among 23 competitors with her school-record time of 2:10.56. Challoner, who broke the previous UW-Oshkosh record of 2:11.27 set by Samantha Sommers in 2011, finished closely behind the event's first-place time of 2:09.33 registered by Illinois Wesleyan University's Ellen Gilbert.

Challoner earned a pair of fourth-place finishes by swimming to times of 59.55 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly and 4:51.49 in the 400-yard individual medley. She also listed fifth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.63.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Challoner helped Rachel Jaworski, Alexandra Schuster and Tessa Shorten earn a fourth-place time of 8:13.79.

The Titans had two other relays place in the top five as the 400-yard freestyle group of Jaworski, Schuster, Shorten and Hannah Cunningham finished fourth with a time of 3:44.37. The 200-yard freestyle relay featured Cunningham, Jaworski, Schuster and Shorten placing fifth with a time of 1:42.90.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining top-10 individual finishes belonged to Schuster. She placed eighth in both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke with times of 55.38 seconds and 1:02.53, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh finished fifth in the team standings with 1,321 points. Carthage College won the 10-team meet with 3,048.5 points while UW-Whitewater placed second with 1,971, Illinois Wesleyan University third with 1,652.5, Carroll University fourth with 1,500 and Lake Forest College (Ill.) sixth with 1,150.5.

The Titans compete in a dual meet at UW-Stevens Point on Friday (Dec. 7).
