Bio

Erin Coppernoll enters the 2023 season with the most coaching victories in the history of the UW-Oshkosh women’s soccer program and the third highest win total in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference archives. Coppernoll has led the Titans to all five of their NCAA Division III postseason appearances, each of their five WIAC championships (two regular season, three postseason) and their lone WIAC Coaching Staff of the Year award.

Coppernoll, who has suffered just four losing seasons in 18 years of leading the Titans, has a UW-Oshkosh coaching record of 188-133-39. Her UW-Oshkosh resume also includes NCAA postseason visits in 2006, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2021 in addition to WIAC regular season championships in 2015 and 2021, and league tournament crowns in 2011, 2014 and 2021. The 2020 season was canceled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

UW-Oshkosh finished the 2022 season with a record of 5-9-5, including a 1-3-3 record in league play. Mackenzie Bennett earned a bevy of postseason awards, including the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete and All-WIAC First Team and United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team.

In 2021, Coppernoll guided UW-Oshkosh to a 16-2-2 record, including a 7-0 mark in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, before going on to clinch the WIAC Championship title and earning conference Coaching Staff of the Year laurels for the first time. The Titans, who completed their first unbeaten conference slate, secured both league championships in the same season for the first time in program history. The WIAC titles were UW-Oshkosh's first in the regular season since sharing the 2015 crown and its first in the postseason since 2014. The Titans' dominant season featured eight shutout victories to go along with a WIAC-leading 2.600 goals and 0.75 goals allowed per match. UW-Oshkosh won a pair of one-goal decisions to clinch the WIAC postseason championship before ultimately falling in a shootout following a 2-2 tie during the opening round of the NCAA Division III Championship. The Titans boasted three All-Region performers and five All-WIAC First Team honorees, including WIAC Defensive Player of the Year Mackenzie Bennett and WIAC Newcomer of the Year Molly Jackson.

Coppernoll and the Titans recorded seven shutouts while finishing fourth in the WIAC standings in 2018 and fifth in 2019.

UW-Oshkosh concluded the 2017 season with an 8-8-4 record, including a 3-1-3 mark in the WIAC, and an appearance in the league tournament semifinals. Coppernoll's Titans matched their fewest conferences losses in program history on the way to finishing third in the league standings. UW-Oshkosh tallied eight shutouts during the 2017 campaign while leading the WIAC in saves.

Coppernoll guided UW-Oshkosh to a 10-9-1 record in 2016 to mark the program's eighth consecutive winning season. The Titans registered six shutouts and advanced to the semifinals of the WIAC Championship.

In 2015, UW-Oshkosh secured a share of its first WIAC title with a 5-1-1 league record and posted a 14-4-3 mark overall. The Titans reached the NCAA postseason for the second straight year before losing an opening-round shootout to DePauw University (Ind.). Coppernoll coached three all-region award winners and six all-conference honorees in 2015, including WIAC Defensive Player of the Year Ashley Siewert.

Coppernoll led the 2014 Titans to a 12-8-1 record, a second-place finish in the WIAC standings and a national postseason appearance. UW-Oshkosh, which posted a league-best 12 shutouts, lost a 1-0 overtime decision to Augsburg University (Minn.) in the opening round of the NCAA Championship after earning the program's second WIAC tournament title.

In 2013, Coppernoll guided UW-Oshkosh to an 11-8-2 record and a second-place WIAC finish. The second-place showing was the Titans’ best since 2006. Coppernoll coached five All-WIAC first-team performers in 2013, including Anna Beckerleg who was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.

UW-Oshkosh earned its highest national ranking in program history in 2012. The Titans opened the season with a 7-0-2 record and ranked 14th nationally by D3soccer.com. UW-Oshkosh finished the season with an 11-5-3 record.

In 2011, the Titans won nine of their last 11 matches to earn a berth in the NCAA Championship. UW-Oshkosh defeated UW-Whitewater in a shootout to clinch its first WIAC tournament title. The Titans advanced to the second round of the national championship with a shootout victory over Ohio Wesleyan University.

Coppernoll’s first UW-Oshkosh squad went 15-4-3 in 2004 and tied the school record for wins. UW-Oshkosh then compiled records of 13-6-1 in 2005 and 12-7-2 in 2006. The 2006 season featured the Titans making their NCAA Championship debut.

Coppernoll has coached 29 players to 45 All-WIAC first team citations and 11 players to 16 All-Region accolades by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

In the classroom Coppernoll’s squads earned Team Academic awards in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Prior to arriving at UW-Oshkosh, Coppernoll spent three seasons as the head women's soccer coach and director of intramural sports at North Park University (Ill.). She coached the Vikings to a 22-31-3 record, including a 10-9 mark in 2002.

Coppernoll’s first head collegiate coaching position was at Ripon College. Her only season at the school, the 1999 campaign, resulted in a 2-14 record.

Coppernoll’s resume also includes assistant coaching positions at UW-Whitewater and Appleton East, Oshkosh West and Stevens Point high schools.

Coppernoll earned four varsity letters in soccer at Oshkosh West High School. She scored a school-record 62 goals during her prep career, including 17 in 1993 when she received all-state honors. Coppernoll was enshrined in the Oshkosh West Wall of Fame in 2018.

At the collegiate level, Coppernoll played the 1993 campaign at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay before transferring to UW-Stevens Point for the next three seasons. At UW-Stevens Point, she helped the Pointers to a 45-16-3 record (21-0-2 WIAC), two NCAA postseason appearances and a pair of WIAC championships. Coppernoll finished her UW-Stevens Point career with 28 goals and 22 assists. She was an All-WIAC first team selection in 1996 and a second team award winner in 1995.

Coppernoll, who holds a United States Soccer Federation “C” license, is a former member of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship and the NSCAA’s NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Regional Ranking committees.

In 2021, Coppernoll was selected as Coach of the Year - Girls Competitive for the State of Wisconsin through the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association.  Coppernoll also won the Midwest Regional award along with being selected as Girls Competitive Coach of the Year through US Youth Soccer. 

Coppernoll received a bachelor's degree from UW-Stevens Point in 1998 and a master's degree from North Park University in 2003. In addition to coaching soccer at UW-Oshkosh, Coppernoll serves as the scheduling manager for the Oshkosh Sports Complex.

Coppernoll and her husband, Steve, are the parents of daughters, Rylee and Brynn.
