Titans Lose WIAC Opener To Eagles

UW-Oshkosh opened its WIAC women's soccer schedule with a 2-0 loss to two-time defending league champion UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Oct. 5) in La Crosse.

UW-La Crosse (7-4-1, 1-0 WIAC) recorded both goals in the first half, including Kaitlyn Villars' score that gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead during the contest's 34th minute (33:33) of activity. Villars tallied her seventh goal of the season off a pass from Sophie Amundson.

The Eagles doubled their advantage over the Titans (3-6-1, 0-1 WIAC) on an own goal in the 39th minute (39:00).

UW-La Crosse totaled 14 shots, including four by Lauren Yass and three by Villars. The Eagles earned nine of the game's 13 corner kick opportunities.

UW-Oshkosh was held to just four shots, none of which were on goal. Attempting one shot each for the Titans were Emily Burg, Grace Herrmann, Mallory Knight and Madison Smith.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Madelyn Runyan saved three shots and allowed both UW-La Crosse goals. Runyan stopped shots from Hayley Hargroder in the 11th minute, Julia Smith in the 25th and Yass in the 47th.

Quinn Shannon didn't face a shot while guarding the UW-La Crosse goal.

UW-Oshkosh hosts UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Oct. 9) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
