Spartans Win Defensive Battle With Titans

All five UW-Oshkosh shots were saved as the University of Dubuque women's soccer team escaped with a 1-0 victory over the Titans Saturday (Sept. 7) in Dubuque, Iowa.

Goalkeeper Victoria Roethler helped the Spartans (3-0) hold their third straight opponent without a score by stopping UW-Oshkosh (1-2) shots from Delaney Karl in the 20th minute of activity, Mallory Knight in the 25th, Emily Burg in the 61st, Mackenzie Bennett in the 64th and Maddie Hill in the 87th. Knight's attempt to score was off a penalty kick.

University of Dubuque's Isabelle Robinson scored off a pass from Natalie Dienstbach at the 20:02 mark of the match for the contest's lone goal.

UW-Oshkosh held the Spartans to just seven shots, including three that were saved by Titan goalkeeper Madelyn Runyan. Runyan stopped University of Dubuque shots from Dienstbach in the first minute of action, Mary Hera in the 65th and Baylee Vincent in the 72nd.

The University of Dubuque posted a 7-5 advantage over UW-Oshkosh in corner kicks.

The University of Dubuque's previously two victories of the 2019 season were 2-0 decisions over Grinnell (Iowa) and Knox (Ill.) colleges.

UW-Oshkosh remains in Dubuque to play Loras College (Iowa) on Sunday (Sept. 8). Loras College captured the American Rivers Conference title last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship.
