Titans Record Second Straight Shutout Win

UW-Oshkosh didn't allow a shot on goal during its 4-0 victory over the Marian University women's soccer team on Monday (Sept. 18) in Fond du Lac.

The shutout victory was the second in as many matches for UW-Oshkosh, which also recorded a 3-0 win over the University of Dubuque (Iowa) on Saturday (Sept. 16). The Titans (3-3-1) have allowed just five goals this season while holding six of their seven opponents to one score or less.

UW-Oshkosh opened the scoring with a breakaway goal by Alek Kleis during the 12th minute (11:14) of action. The kick by Kleis to the right corner of the net marked her second goal of the season.

The Titans doubled their lead in the 24th minute (23:55) on Fiona Neary's first goal of the year. Neary collected a loose ball in front of the Marian University goal and booted a short-range shot into the net.

UW-Oshkosh closed its first-half scoring with Taylor Arnold's goal just 18 seconds (44:42) before intermission. Arnold's first goal of the season came on a shot that floated to the top right corner of the net.

The Titans maintained their 3-0 lead until Maddie Morris chipped a 5-yard shot into the goal during the game's 85th minute (84:36). The first score of the season for Morris followed a pass from Hannah Zacher.

UW-Oshkosh attempted 18 shots, including four by Addie Schmitz, three by Arnold and two each from Kleis, Morris and Delaney Karl.

UW-Oshkosh limited Marian University (3-3) to just four shots, two in both halves. The Sabres got shots from Alicia Balken in the contest's 17th minute, Jessica Retzlaff in the 36th, Reilly Louko in the 54th and Shannon Coughlin in the 78th. Coughlin's shot was the best of the four attempts as her kick hit the right post.

Three UW-Oshkosh goalkeepers saw action, including Madelyn Runyan who started for the Titans and played the entire 45-minute first half. Erin Toomey then played 36:09 into the second half before being relieved by Abby Person for the game's final 8:51. None of the three UW-Oshkosh goalies faced a shot.

Marian University split its goalkeeping duties as Danielle Deltgen played the first half and Alyssa Jones the second. Deltgen allowed three goals and saved two shots while Jones allowed one goal and save five shots.

The Titans earned seven of the game's nine corner kicks, including five in the second half.

UW-Oshkosh welcomes a visit from the University of Chicago (Ill.) on Saturday (Sept. 23) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The Maroons are ranked second in the NCAA Division III by the United Soccer Coaches.
