Titans' Early Goal Holds Up In Victory

Christina Mauthe's goal in the first nine minutes of play held up as UW-Oshkosh recorded its fifth straight women's soccer win with a 1-0 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday (Oct. 3) in Menomonie.

With the win, UW-Oshkosh (7-2, 2-0 WIAC) joins UW-La Crosse (9-3, 3-0 WIAC) and UW-Whitewater (9-2, 2-0 WIAC) as the only unbeaten squads left in the eight-team league.

Mauthe scored her third goal of the season just 8:19 into the contest. Her unassisted kick from 15 yards was the game's first shot.

The rest of the first half was relatively tame, as only six more shots were taken. UW-Stout (6-3-2, 2-2 WIAC) owned four of the remaining shots, but trailed by one goal at the break.

Mauthe nearly added a second score for the Titans in the 48th minute, but her kick bounced off the crossbar of the goal.

UW-Stout had two shots that were saved by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nina Muzi in the second half. The first was a kick by Addy Maher in the 52nd minute and the second was a boot by Sydney Kasper in the 59th.

UW-Oshkosh, which improved its record to 18-3-6 against UW-Stout, finished the contest with 12 shots. Mauthe led the Titans with four shots, while Robyn Elliott and Courtney Leister tallied two apiece.

UW-Stout ended the match with nine shots and five of the game's seven corner kicks. Jenna Kizlik paced the Blue Devils with three shots, while Kasper and Nikki Sedivy counted two each.

Muzi totaled three saves for UW-Oshkosh and Paige Meyer four for UW-Stout.

UW-Oshkosh plays at UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday (Oct. 6).
