Seventh-Ranked Thunder Defeat Titans

Seventh-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) used a goal in each half from Sarah Frey to defeat the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team, 3-0, on Wednesday (Oct. 8) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

It was the Titans' second straight match against a team ranked in the top 15 nationally. UW-Oshkosh (6-5-1) lost a 1-0 decision to 13th-ranked College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) on Oct. 5.

The first of Frey's goals came in the 12th minute (11:37), a 3-yard shot off a pass from Sarah Guidera.

Wheaton College (10-1-1) then grabbed a two-goal lead just 16 seconds (45:16) into the second half on a 15-yard shot from Kristin Rauh.

Frey scored her second goal of the contest and her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the game's 83rd minute (82:50). Sydney Sharkey was credited with the assist on Frey's 15-yard kick.

Wheaton College doubled UW-Oshkosh in shots by a 22-11 count. The Thunder edged the Titans on corner kicks, 3-2.

UW-Oshkosh attempted seven of its shots in the second half. The Titans were led by the four shots from Robyn Elliott and the two by both Rachel Elliott and Felicia Retrum.

Wheaton College totaled 11 shots in each half and finished the match with 15 shots on goal. Frey launched a team-leading six shots for the Thunder, while Mary Pettit and Alexa Sharkey fired three each.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nina Muzi saved 12 shots, including seven in the second half. Wheaton College's Kelsey Graham saved six shots, including four in the second period, to record her team's ninth shutout of the season.

UW-Oshkosh resumes WIAC play against UW-River Falls on Saturday (Oct. 11) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The Titans have won both of their previous WIAC matches.
