Cobbers Deliver Titans Overtime Loss
Rochelle Hickerson scored during the final minute of the first overtime period to give the Concordia-Moorhead College (Minn.) women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Aug. 30) in Stevens Point.
Hickerson broke a scoreless tussle when she took a pass from Emily Wendorff and got by the UW-Oshkosh defense to slide the ball into the back of the net. Hickerson's goal came with just 59 seconds left in the 100th minute of play.
UW-Oshkosh (1-1) had only one shot on goal, a Maddie Dallman kick that was saved by Concordia-Moorhead College goalkeeper Elizabeth Bitzan in the first half. The Titans finished the contest with six shots, including three by Dallman.
Concordia-Moorhead College, which owned all eight of the game's corner kicks, totaled 16 shots. The Cobbers had 10 shots saved by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nina Muzi, including nine in the second period. Concordia-Moorhead College (2-0) was led by the five shots from Paige McCullough and the three from Libby Fransdal.
Concordia-Moorhead College, which is picked to finish fourth in the 12-team Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this fall, has won both of its games against UW-Oshkosh.
The Titans kick off their home schedule against the University of Chicago (Ill.) on Saturday (Sept. 6) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. Last year, the Maroons compiled a 15-3-2 record and competed in the NCAA Division III postseason tournament.
