Titans' Winning Streak Ends With Overtime Loss

Natalia Jovanovic scored in overtime as the University of Chicago women's soccer team ended UW-Oshkosh's seven-match winning streak with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday (Oct. 23) in Chicago, Ill.

Jovanovic ended the contest with her second goal of the match. Sara Kwan fed Jovanovic on the run up the right side and she kicked a ball that hit the left post and bounced into the net during the 94th minute (93:13) of play.

The University of Chicago (10-3-2) took a 1-0 lead when Jovanovic scored from 15 yards out in the game's 23rd minute (22:37). Micaela Harms assisted her kick.

The Maroons had several chances to increase their lead in the second half, but UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Katie Berkopec stopped several shots from close range with saves or blocks.

UW-Oshkosh (10-6-1) eventually forced overtime when Ashley Markowiak scored her first collegiate goal in the 81st minute (80:52). Delivering the pass on Markowiak's six-yard shot was Amanda Baalke.

The Titans finished the contest with 13 shots, including four from both Baalke and Christina Mauthe and two from Megan White. UW-Oshkosh earned three corner kicks.

The University of Chicago attempted 20 shots and acquired six corner kicks. Harms led the Maroons with six shots, while Kwan launched four and Jovanovic three.

Berkopec totaled eight saves, with six of them recorded during the second half. University of Chicago goalkeeper Jacinda Reid saved five shots.

UW-Oshkosh concludes WIAC play for the season by hosting UW-Platteville on Saturday (Oct. 26) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
