Titans Close Out Home Schedule With Win Over Raiders

The UW-Oshkosh wrestling team closed out its home schedule for the 2019-20 season with a 31-15 victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday (Jan. 25) in Kolf Sports Center. 

UW-Oshkosh (4-9) won six of the contest's 10 bouts, including forfeit victories to Luc Valdez at 125 pounds and AJ Schoenfuss at 133 to open the match.

The Titans followed their forfeit wins with triumphs by Eli Mondrella at 141 pounds and Kobe Allen at 149. Mondrella pinned Eddie Diaz Barragan four minutes into their bout while Allen posted a 9-0 decision over Jimmy Cushman. Mondrella's pin was his fourth of the season. 

Milwaukee School of Engineering (3-8), which suffered its sixth straight loss to UW-Oshkosh, cut its deficit to 22-3 on Jack Rathburn's 6-3 victory over Shane Dziadosz at 157 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh earned four team points back in the next bout as Muzi Sitshela defeated Chris Botzoc, 12-4, at 165 pounds.

The Raiders pulled to within 26-9 of the Titans on wins by Drew Matticks and Helton Vandenbush in the following two bouts. Matticks defeated AJ Stengel, 3-1, at 174 pounds while Vandenbush ousted John DePersia, 5-0, at 184.

The teams exchanged victories in the contest's final two bouts as UW-Oshkosh's Colten Cashmore tallied a 22-4 (6:21) win over Evan Carter at 197 pounds while Milwaukee School of Engineering's Luis Hernandez pinned Patrick Reilly in 1:26 at 285. Cashmore increased his season record to 22-8 (85-40 career) with the victory.

UW-Oshkosh will send wrestlers to a pair of meets in Illinois next weekend. The Titans will be represented Friday (Jan. 31) and Saturday (Feb. 1) at the Wheaton College Pete Willson Invitational and Saturday at the Harper College Open.
