Strong Finish Leads To Titans' Win Over Pointers

UW-Oshkosh overcame an early eight-point deficit to defeat the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team, 27-15, on Thursday (Nov. 21) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Stevens Point, which suffered its second straight loss to the Titans, won the contest's first two bouts before UW-Oshkosh won six of the final eight.

UW-Stevens Point (5-1, 0-1 WIAC) opened the match with wins by Brandon Peckham at 157 pounds and Jordan Weinzetl at 165. Peckham defeated Nate Arquinego, 5-3, while Weinzetl ousted Muzi Sitshela, 15-0.

UW-Oshkosh (1-2, 1-2 WIAC) answered back with two victories of its own to take a 9-8 lead over the Pointers. The Titans received their points on Jordan Blanchard's pin of Austin Schrei in 69 seconds at 174 pounds and Bryce Herlache's 4-3 overtime (six sessions) win over Austin Stebane at 184.

The Pointers took their final lead of the match, an 11-9 score, on Jerry Lipke's 8-6 overtime (three periods) win over Colten Cashmore at 197 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh then went ahead for good on Ben Kitslaar's victory at 285 pounds and forfeits awarded to Titans Denis Murphy and Matt Joyce at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively. Kitslaar gave UW-Oshkosh a 12-11 lead with his 8-5 win over Noah Wieczorek.

The teams split the final two bouts of the match as UW-Stevens Point's Zane Strubler defeated AJ Schoenfuss, 9-1, at 141 pounds and UW-Oshkosh's Kegan Lazar ousted Mason Wheeler, 9-2, at 149.

UW-Oshkosh will send a good portion of its team to the Concordia University Wisconsin Open on Saturday (Nov. 23) in Mequon.
