Titans To Wrestle At NCAA West Regional

Spots in the national tournament will be on the line when 10 UW-Oshkosh wrestlers compete at the NCAA Division III West Regional on Saturday (March 1) in Minneapolis, Minn.

The regional takes place at Si Melby Hall on the campus of Augsburg College. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

The top three finishers in each of the 10 weight classes at the West Regional qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship on March 14-15 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

In addition to UW-Oshkosh, wrestlers from Augsburg College, Concordia-Moorhead College (Minn.), Concordia University Wisconsin, Lakeland College, Maranatha Baptist University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Pacific University (Ore.), St. John's University (Minn.), St. Olaf College (Minn.), UW-Eau Claire and UW-Platteville will also be competing at the meet.

Nazar Kulchytskyy and Dan Schiferl both won individual crowns at last year's West Regional. This season, the 157-pound Kulchytskyy owns a 32-2 record, while the 174-pound Schiferl is 26-4. Kulchytskyy is a two-time NCAA Division III champion.

Other Titans expecting to contend for a top-three position are Craig Mason at 133 pounds, Tom Dahlke at 165, Tyler Wetenkamp at 197 and Brandon Clapper at 285.

UW-Oshkosh will also be represented at the meet by Scott Worlund at 125 pounds, Joe Pelkey at 141, Hunter Mulock at 149 and Korey Kleinhans at 184.

Augsburg College scored 143.5 points to claim last year's team title. Concordia-Moorhead College finished second in the 12-team meet with 133 points, while St. John's University placed third with 127, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 79 and St. Olaf College fifth with 72.
