Titans Seeded Third For WIAC Wrestling Championship

UW-Oshkosh opens the WIAC Wrestling Championship against UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Feb. 15) in La Crosse.

This is the second year the tournament will use a dual-meet format. The #3 Titans take on #6 UW-Eau Claire in the first round at 9 a.m. The other opening contest is between #4 UW-Stevens Point and #5 UW-Platteville.

UW-Whitewater and UW-La Crosse received byes into the second round. The Warhawks earned the top seed after posting a 5-0 conference record, while the Eagles grabbed the second seed with a 4-1 mark.

If UW-Oshkosh wins its first match, the Titans will battle UW-La Crosse.

Nazar Kulchytskyy leads UW-Oshkosh this year with a 29-2 record and 15 pins. Kulchytskyy has been voted WIAC Wrestler of the Year each of the past two seasons.

The Titans also have received strong performances from Brandon Clapper and Dan Schiferl. Schiferl owns a 23-4 record with seven pins, while Clapper is 15-10 with seven pins.

UW-Whitewater is the two-time defending league champion. At last season's WIAC Championship, the Titans went 1-2 for fifth place.
