Warhawks Soar To Victory Over Titans

Dan Schiferl pinned his opponent and Nazar Kulchytskyy won on a technical fall during UW-Oshkosh's 33-11 loss to the UW-Whitewater wrestling team on Friday (Dec. 13) in Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater (6-2/4-0 WIAC) entered the match ranked 14th in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association and UW-Oshkosh (1-1/1-1 WIAC) 20th.

The Warhawks owned the winner in the first five contests before Kulchytskyy posted a 21-6 victory over Kegan Arthur at 165 pounds. Schiferl then followed with a pin of TJ Decker in 4:39 at 174 pounds to cut the Titans' deficit to 21-11.

UW-Whitewater's eight victories included a pin by Trevor Pruett at 133 pounds and double-digit wins by Zac Denney at 125, Shane Siefert at 197 and Anthony Edgren at 285.

Denney opened the match with a 21-6 win over Scott Worlund. Pruett then followed with a pin of Mason in 2:27. The Warhawks closed the contest with Siefert's 17-1 victory over Alan Dahlke and Edgren's 11-1 triumph over Brandon Clapper.

Other winners for UW-Whitewater were Corey Meyer at 141 pounds, Matt Adcock at 149, Tom Gerszewski at 157 and Andrew Pettit at 184.

Meyer recorded a 9-1 victory over Hunter Mulock, while Adcock tallied a 9-4 win over Jerome Scott. Gerszewski edged Tom Dahlke, 3-1, before Pettit ousted Korey Kleinhans, 12-4.  

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the Midlands Championship on Dec. 29-30 in Evanston, Ill.
