Titans Celebrate A Win In Their Home Opener

Winning performances from freshmen Emily Gilot, Kaira Hammond and Olivia Keller helped the UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team to a 183.825-179.450 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Saturday (Jan. 19) in Kolf Sports Center.

Gilot led the three first-year Titans with wins in the all-around and vault competition while Hammond and Keller added victories on the uneven bars and balance beam, respectively.

Gilot defeated five all-around contestants with her first-place score of 36.50. She also finished first on the vault with a career-best mark of 9.60 and third on the balance beam with a figure of 9.175.

Hammond took first place on the uneven bars with a score of 9.35 while finishing third on the vault and sixth on the balance beam with values of 9.275 and 9.025, respectively. Her score on the balance beam was a career high.

Keller won the balance beam competition with a career-best score of 9.60. She also finished fifth on the vault with a score of 9.25 and sixth in the floor exercise with a grade of 9.275. Her result on the vault also established a personal high.

UW-Oshkosh owned the top five performances on both the balance beam and in the floor exercise.

In addition to the balance beam listings of Gilot, Hammond and Keller, the Titans had Amira Ali finish second with a score of 9.25 and Jessica Bernardo sixth with a mark of 9.025.

Besides the finish of Keller in the floor exercise, UW-Oshkosh had Bailey Finin finish second with a score of 9.425, Bernardo third at 9.425 and both Ali and Rahdea Jarvis fourth at 9.35. The result for Jarvis was a career best.

Bernardo also placed second in the all-around competition with 38.225 points and sixth on the uneven bars with a score of 8.65.

UW-Oshkosh also received a third-place score of 9.275 on the vault from Ali, a fourth-place mark of 9.00 from Marissa Scholtens on the uneven bars and a fifth-place figure of 8.90 on the uneven bars from Jarvis.

UW-Oshkosh compiled its overall team score with 46.775 points in the floor exercise, 46.575 on the vault, 46.075 on the balance beam and 44.40 on the uneven bars. The Titans' score on the vault was a season best.

Gustavus Adolphus College was outscored by the Titans in all four events as the Gusties tallied points of 46.20 in the floor exercise, 45.875 on the vault, 43.975 on the balance beam and 43.40 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh will host UW-Eau Claire its second home meet of the season on Friday (Jan. 25).
