Eagles Vault Past Titans In Season Opener

Steffani Meusburger was victorious on the uneven bars as the UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team opened its 2014 season with a 181.775-179.95 defeat to UW-La Crosse on Friday (Jan. 3) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Eagles, who finished second at last year's NCGA Championship, posted scores of 46.275 on the vault and 45.65 on the balance beam to top the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh attained its highest event mark on the uneven bars with a score of 46.075. The Titans also tallied 45.625 points in the floor exercise, 45.125 on the vault and 43.125 on the balance beam.

Meusburger claimed her victory with a score of 9.475. The Titans also had Leane Blais finish second on the uneven bars with 9.45 points, Elizabeth Kiel fifth with 9.20 and Krystal Walker sixth with 9.10.

Walker added second-place scores of 9.35 on both the vault and in the floor exercise. She also ranked fifth on the balance beam with a mark of 8.775 while totaling 36.575 points as the meet's only all-around competitor.

The Titans' Emily Ryan finished in the top five in a pair of events. She placed fourth in the floor exercise with a score of 9.25 and fifth on the vault with a value of 9.20.

UW-Oshkosh also had Kiel finish fourth on the balance beam with a score of 9.20 and Kylie Fischer fifth in the floor exercise with a figure of 9.225.

UW-La Crosse picked up winning scores of 9.60 on the balance beam and 9.375 on the vault from Kari Willett and 9.40 in the floor exercise from Ali Berry.

UW-Oshkosh remains in Kolf Sports Center to host Hamline University (Minn.) and UW-Stout on Jan. 11.
