Titans Place Seventh At UW-Whitewater Invitational

McKenzie Paul shared third place in the individual competition to help UW-Oshkosh finish seventh at the UW-Whitewater Invitational held Friday and Saturday (Sept. 19-20) in Delavan.

Hope College (Mich.) won the 13-team tournament at the Delbrook Golf Club with 645 strokes, 61-over par. The Flying Dutch totaled 322 strokes over 18 holes on Friday and 323 on Saturday.

UW-Eau Claire finished second in the team standings with 658 strokes, while Wheaton College (Ill.) and the University of St. Francis (Ill.) ranked third with 661. Trine University (Ind.) placed fifth with 669 strokes and UW-Whitewater sixth with 670.

UW-Oshkosh's seventh-place finish was determined by its 673 stokes, 89-over par. The Titans tallied 341 strokes on Friday and 332 on Saturday.

Paul and Laura Stair both finished in the top 14 for UW-Oshkosh. Paul and Amy Worthington of Trine University placed third with 159 strokes, while Stair, Katie Moore of UW-Eau Claire and Nicole Meyer of Hope College ranked 14th with 167. Paul concluded the tournament with four birdies and Stair three.

Hope College's Morgan Leep captured the individual title with 156 strokes, nine-over par. Claudia Rhein of UW-Whitewater finished second among the tournament's 84 golfers with 158 strokes.

The Titans also had Micayla Richards finish 32nd with 174 strokes, Samantha Kuik 38th with 178 and Taylor Wenzel 43rd with 182. Kuik and UW-Whitewater's Sammie Leibham were the only golfers in the tournament to register an eagle.

UW-Oshkosh competes next Friday and Saturday (Sept. 27-28) at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational.
