Titans Take Second Place In Own Invitational

A pair of top-four individual finishes helped UW-Oshkosh place second in its own women's golf invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 6-7) at the Oshkosh Country Club.

Defending champion Viterbo University totaled 686 strokes to win the 36-hole tournament. The V-Hawks counted an event-low 340 strokes on Sunday to erase a two-stroke deficit to UW-Oshkosh following Saturday's competition.

UW-Oshkosh ended up finishing second among the eight teams with 691 strokes. The Titans compiled their overall score with 344 strokes on Saturday and 347 on Sunday.

UW-Whitewater ranked a distant third in the team standings with 711 strokes, while Carroll University placed fourth with 770, UW-Whitewater's B Team fifth with 772, Viterbo University's B Team sixth with 789, UW-Stevens Point seventh with 797 and St. Norbert College eighth with 842.

Julia Callaghan of Viterbo University and McKenzie Paul of UW-Oshkosh shared first place in the individual category with 165 strokes, 19-over par. Callaghan was crowned the overall winner after edging Paul by one stroke on a scorecard tiebreaker. Paul had 18-hole scores of 82 on Saturday and 83 on Sunday.

UW-Oshkosh's Laura Stair took fourth place among the 46 golfers with 171 strokes, including 83 on Sunday. She recorded 18 pars for a tournament best.

Tiffany Boak of UW-Stevens Point took third place with 170 strokes, while Heather Zuleger and Stephanie Gerber of Viterbo University shared fifth place with 173.

UW-Oshkosh also had Micayla Richards finish 12th with 177 strokes, Taylor Wenzel 13th with 178, Samantha Kuik 25th with 199, Emily Mallek 37th with 217 and Sarah Stefaniak 39th with 221.

The Oshkosh Country Club played to a par of 73 at 5,812 yards.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the Viterbo University Invitational next weekend (Sept. 13-14) in La Crosse.
