Titans Look To Finish High At WIAC Championship

UW-Oshkosh strives for its highest finish since 2007 at the WIAC Women's Golf Championship this weekend in Nekoosa.

Individuals will play 54 holes over a period of three days at the Lake Arrowhead Golf Course, with competition beginning Friday (Oct. 4) and concluding Sunday (Oct. 6). The winner of the team title receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship on May 13-16 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

This is the 18th edition of the event. Last year's championship went to UW-Stout with a score of 1,024 strokes. UW-Whitewater finished second with 1,025 strokes, UW-Eau Claire third with 1,026 and UW-River Falls fourth with 1,073. UW-Oshkosh took seventh with 1,145 strokes.

UW-Oshkosh has finished seventh at the WIAC Championship the last two years after placing sixth in 2009 and 2010 and eighth in 2008. UW-Oshkosh won league titles in 2000, 2002 and 2003.

UW-Oshkosh is led by freshman McKenzie Paul, who ranks among the conference leaders with a 79.7 scoring average. Theresa Henke (87.8), Taylor Wenzel (93.1) and Sarah Sheldon (94.4) have also performed well this season.

UW-Stout's Brittany McNett-Emmerich is the defending league champion. This year, she boasts a league-best 77.1 scoring average. The remainder of the Blue Devil lineup features juniors Megan Ramp (81.9), Mariah Chesley (82.8), Alison Van Heuklom (84.9) and Anna Busch (86.0).

UW-Eau Claire owns a conference-leading eight titles, with the most recent in 2011. Junior Kate Engler, who holds a 77.8 scoring average, leads the Blugolds.
