Titans Register Lopsided Win Over Vikings

Leah Porath led all players with 19 points and eight rebounds as the UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team produced its best shooting performance of the year on the way to an 88-45 victory over Lawrence University on Sunday (Dec. 1) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh shot a season-best 54.4 percent (31-57) from the field, including 9-for-10 during the fourth quarter, and concluded the contest with advantages of 39-29 in rebounds, 17-9 in assists, 11-15 in turnovers, 13-5 in steals and 6-1 in blocks. The Titans, who have won both of their last two games by 43-point margins, entered the day ranked second in the NCAA Division III with 10.5 turnovers per contest and eighth with a 1.22 assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Titans (4-3) scored the first six points of the game Sunday before going on to build leads of 39-22 at halftime and 60-29 late in the third quarter.

Porath went 8 of 14 from the floor en route to pacing the Titans in scoring for the ninth straight game. Porath, averaging 21.1 points per game on the year, entered the contest ranked fourth nationally with a .708 3-point percentage.

Olivia Campbell added 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and a career high-tying seven steals for the Titans while Abby Kaiser scored a career-best 14 points in a reserve role.

Thirteen Titans contributed points, including Claire Staples with a career-best eight, and Jenna Jorgensen and Brooke Freitag with six apiece. The UW-Oshkosh bench accounted for 45 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.

Lawrence University (2-1) suffered its first loss of the year after shooting 26.8 percent (15-56) from the floor. The Vikings, who started the year with two wins for the first time since 2016-17, endured their most lopsided loss since a 66-21 setback to St. Norbert College on Dec. 6, 2017.

Erin Hill led the Vikings with 13 points and two steals.

Lawrence University leading scorer Kenya Earl, who was second in the country at 27.5 points per game, was held to 11 points Sunday on 3-for-10 shooting from the floor.

Porath scored on the opening possession of the game, and Kaiser's layup extended the Titans' lead to 10-2 midway through the first quarter.

Lawrence University pulled within 17-13 early in the second period, but UW-Oshkosh responded with an 11-2 run for a 28-15 lead and maintained a double-digit advantage for the final 26:34 of the game. The Titans' 11-2 run featured five points by Campbell and three from both Kaiser and Porath.

A Jorgensen 3-pointer increased UW-Oshkosh's lead to 60-29 with 2:08 remaining in the third quarter. The Titans then outscored the Vikings, 27-9, during the final period and owned their largest lead when Katie Rossetti's layup with a minute to play created the final score.

UW-Oshkosh has won all three of its meetings with Lawrence University. The Titans won the previous matchup, 65-56, during the 2011-12 season opener.

The Titans are off until traveling to St. Norbert College on Dec. 17.
