Titans Put Knights Away Early

Eliza Campbell and Kylie Moe scored 14 points apiece to lift the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team to a 75-45 win over Carleton College (Minn.) on Thursday (Dec. 29) in Wisconsin Dells.

UW-Oshkosh (9-1), which held its seventh opponent to fewer than 46 points, never trailed Carleton College and built leads of 14-2 during the first quarter and 41-19 at intermission.

The Titans matched a season-best with five turnovers and attempted a season-high 30 free throws while Carleton College notched just two assists.

UW-Oshkosh owned advantages in field goal percentage (.436 to .302), 3-point field goal percentage (.368 to .167), free throw percentage (.667 to .647), rebounds (39-37), assists (13-2), steals (5-2) and turnovers (12-5). The Titans committed just one turnover over the final three quarters.

The Titans, ranked ninth in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, entered the contest leading the country with 39.3 points allowed per game while listing third nationally with 12.2 turnovers per contest and seventh by limiting teams to 29.3 percent shooting from the floor and winning by an average of 27.6 points per game.

Campbell connected on 4 of 7 shots from the field and all five of her attempts from the free throw line while Moe produced her season-high scoring output by making 4 of 5 from the floor, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and all three tries at the foul line. Campbell added a team-leading six rebounds.

Taylor Schmidt contributed 11 points and a game-high four assists for the Titans, who also received eight points apiece from Alex Richard and Isabella Samuels.

All 17 Titans played at least three minutes as the UW-Oshkosh reserves outscored the Knights' bench, 36-10.

UW-Oshkosh scored the first five points of the contest before holding Carleton College scoreless for more than five minutes. A three-point play by Moe provided the Titans a 14-2 advantage with 2:39 left in the opening quarter.

Carleton College shot just 15.4 percent (2-13) from the floor and committed five turnovers during the first period.

The Knights, who have suffered sixth straight losses, trimmed their deficit to 20-13 in the second quarter, but a 3-pointer by Emma Melotik gave UW-Oshkosh a 23-13 cushion, and the Titans held a double-digit lead for the final 25:03 of the game.

Melotik's long-range basket started a string of 13 unanswered points for the Titans that included layups by Richard on three straight possessions in a span of 76 seconds.

A 3-pointer by Moe at the end of the first half increased the UW-Oshkosh lead to 41-19 at intermission.

Campbell and Samuels combined to score 13 of UW-Oshkosh's 15 points in the third quarter as the Titans extended their lead to 56-33 entering the final period.

UW-Oshkosh opened its largest lead of 32 points at 72-40 on a basket by Jaimee Pitt with 2:09 remaining as nine Titans scored points during the final period.

Cece Leone led Carleton College (1-8) with 15 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field.

Caroline Hull added eight points for the Knights while Katherine Miles had a game-high eight rebounds.

UW-Oshkosh remains in Wisconsin Dells to play Bethel University (Minn.) on Friday (Dec. 30).
