Four players scored in double figures as the fifth-ranked UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team cruised to an 86-60 win over Hamline University (Minn.) in the season opener on Saturday (Nov. 15) in Eau Claire.

The Titans, who return four starters from last year's squad that compiled a 26-4 record and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship, won their season opener for the 32nd time in 41 years.

UW-Oshkosh shot 52.7 percent (29-55) from the floor and made 25-of-35 free throws (71.4 percent) while outrebounding Hamline University, 43-25. The Pipers, who had a 7-18 record last season, were held to 36.4 percent (20-55) shooting from the floor, including 21.1 percent (4-19) on 3-point attempts.

Alex Richard led the Titans with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting and six rebounds. Marissa Selner had 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor and five rebounds. Ashley Neustifter added 12 points and Eliza Campbell 11 on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and six rebounds. Taylor Schmidt led UW-Oshkosh with five assists to go along with eight points. Katelyn Kuehl chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.

The Titans scored the first basket 42 seconds into the game on a jumper by Selner and never trailed. UW-Oshkosh's lead ballooned to 20-7 after the second of two Schmidt free throws with 12:27 remaining in the first half.

Hamline University (0-1) responded with a five-point run over the next 31 seconds to pull within 20-12, but a Richard free throw gave UW-Oshkosh a 24-14 lead with 10:19 left in the first half, and the Titans had a double-digit lead the rest of the game.

UW-Oshkosh (1-0) closed the first half with a 17-8 run for a 49-27 lead. The Titans led by at least 16 points the entire second half.

Hamline University's Jordan Sammons led all players with 30 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the floor and 10-of-14 accuracy from the line. Chelsey Bonsante added 13 points for the Pipers.
