Titans Begin Softball Season With Four Indoor Games

UW-Oshkosh gets the 2014 softball season underway with four games at the Superior Dome on Saturday and Sunday (March 1-2) in Marquette, Mich.

The Titans, who own 10 straight winning seasons, open against Carroll University and Finlandia University (Mich.) on Saturday. UW-Oshkosh then meets Simpson College (Iowa) and Lakeland College on Sunday.

Flying 1,300 miles south, UW-Oshkosh has 10 games scheduled in Clermont, Fla., from March 23-28. The Titans begin their trip with a contest against Hamilton College (N.Y.), who they defeated by a 3-2 score last year.

The list of Florida opponents includes seventh-ranked Luther College (Iowa) and 11th-ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.). Luther College advanced to the NCAA Division III World Series last season, while the University of St. Thomas posted a 41-7 record.

UW-Oshkosh begins WIAC play with a home doubleheader against UW-Stevens Point on April 2. The Titans remain at YP.com Softball Park to host UW-River Falls on April 5.

From April 12-18, the Titans play eight straight home games. UW-Oshkosh will be matching up with UW-Stout, UW-La Crosse, St. Norbert College and Finlandia University.

UW-Oshkosh's final eight contests are on the road, including a doubleheader at defending WIAC champion UW-Eau Claire on April 26.

Ten letter winners return for the Titans. The lineup features All-WIAC first baseman Tess Fadness, catcher Katie Koepsel and outfielder Hayden Krueger. Fadness and Krueger each hit seven home runs last year while batting over .384.

Jill Vondrak expects to lead a young pitching staff. In 2013, Vondrak totaled a 6-4 record with a 2.88 earned run average in 73 innings.

Scott Beyer enters his first season as UW-Oshkosh's head coach. The Titans went 25-11 a year ago and finished third in the WIAC with an 11-5 record.
