Titans Place Third At UW-Oshkosh Open

UW-Oshkosh took third place among five teams with 63 points at the UW-Oshkosh Men's Cross Country Open held Friday (Oct. 25) in Whitewater.

The meet was originally scheduled to be held at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, but due to poor course conditions caused by recent weather the meet was relocated to UW-Whitewater's home facility.

In front of UW-Oshkosh in the team standings were first-place UW-Whitewater with 45 points and second-place UW-Stevens Point with 53.

Behind UW-Oshkosh in team listings were fourth-place UW-Platteville with 72 points and fifth-place Maranatha Baptist University with 128.

UW-Oshkosh's top runner was Skyler Yunk, who finished eighth out of 54 runners with an 8,000-meter time of 28:04.

Yunk was followed in the top 20 finishes by UW-Oshkosh teammates Andrew Strasser, Aaron Dorsey, Henry Laste, Parker Scheld and Bob Szymanski. Strasser placed 11th with a time of 28:26 while Dorsey finished 12th in 28:26, Laste 14th in 28:35, Scheld 18th in 28:47 and Szymanski 20th in 28:50.

The Titans also had Austin Baker finish 33rd with a time of 29:28, Zachary Molland 44th in 30:36, Reid Marquardt 47th in 31:14 and Eddie Gnewuch 48th in 31:54.

Nolan Wallenkamp from UW-Platteville claimed the individual title with a time of 26:56 while Jeremey Fopma from Maranatha Baptist University finished second in 27:10. UW-Whitewater owned the next three finishes as Andrew Lohse placed third in 27:50, Mathias Otten fourth in 27:55 and Seth Zimdars fifth in 27:55. 

UW-Oshkosh rested several runners in preparation for next Saturday's (Nov. 2) WIAC Championship at the Cole Acres Golf Course in Cuba City.
