Titans Place Fourth At Midwest Open

Jordan Carpenter placed a career-best ninth individually to lead the UW-Oshkosh men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish among eight teams at the UW-Parkside Midwest Open held Saturday (Sept. 13) in Somers.

The Titans scored 102 points in the 8K race that featured three NCAA Division I teams and two from D II.

Carpenter, who recorded his second career top-10 finish and first since 2011, finished first among D III runners.

Rounding out the Titans' top five were Charlend Howard in 17th place with a time of 26:23.8, Tyler Miletti in 18th (26:26.8), Kenny Halloran in 27th (26:48.6) and Erik Hofferber in 31st (26:55.4). It was Howard's debut race for the Titans and Miletti's second career top-20 showing. Howard and Miletti joined Carpenter as the top three finishers among D III runners.

Finishing in the sixth and seventh spots for UW-Oshkosh were Mike Foust in 32nd place with a time of 26:58.3 and Joe Zack in 33rd (26:59.1).

D II UW-Parkside won the Midwest Open with 28 points, followed by D I UW-Milwaukee with 51 and D I Oakland University (Mich.) with 62.

Finishing behind UW-Oshkosh were D II Winona State University (Minn.) in fifth place with 141 points, D III St. Norbert College in sixth with 187, D I UW-Green in seventh with 192 and D III Beloit College in eighth with 243.

Titans also finishing in the top 75 among the 106-runner field were Ryne Scopp in 39th place with a time of 27:00.5, Mitch Pauers in 43rd (27:17.1), Justin Skinkis in 44th (27:18.3), Trevor Damkot in 45th (27:19.5), Luke Hill in 53rd (27:42.2), Nate Meints in 62nd (28:10.8) and Charlie Scott in 71st (28:32.2).

UW-Milwaukee's Marcus Paulson won the Midwest Open with a time of 25:16.4.

UW-Oshkosh's next meet is the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota in Falcon Heights, Minn., on Saturday (Sept. 27).
