Wilburn Chosen As WIAC Track & Field Athlete Of The Week

The WIAC named UW-Oshkosh's Jonathan Wilburn as one of its two Kwik Trip Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week award winners for meets held Dec. 2-Jan. 26.

Wilburn, the league's top field performer, broke UW-Oshkosh's 19-year-old indoor record in the triple jump as the Titans won nine events at the Ripon College Red Hawk Opener held Jan. 25.

Wilburn defeated eight other contestants with his winning and nation-leading measurement of 50-3 1/4. Shannon King held the previous UW-Oshkosh triple jump record of 49-9 3/4 since March 10, 2001. Wilburn also finished eighth in the meet's long jump competition with a distance of 21-4 1/4.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 268 points to acquire the team title in Ripon. Viterbo University finished second to the Titans in the eight-team meet with 87 points while Ripon College placed third with 85.

Wilburn additionally won the triple jump and finished fourth in the long jump during UW-Oshkosh's home meet with Lawrence University on Jan. 18 and won the triple jump at UW-Oshkosh's Early Bird Invitational held Dec. 7.

In UW-Oshkosh's 112-12 win over Lawrence University, Wilburn recorded measurements of 48-10 3/4 in the triple jump and 21-9 in the long jump.

During the Titans' first-place finish at the 10-team UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational, Wilburn skipped to a winning distance of 49-1 1/2 in the triple jump. UW-Oshkosh captured the team title with 277 points while Carroll University finished second with 69 and St. Norbert College third with 56.

Tyler Nault of UW-La Crosse was selected as the WIAC Track Athlete of the Week.
