Titans Place Sixth At WIAC Outdoor Championship

UW-Oshkosh finished sixth with 80.33 points at the WIAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship held Friday and Saturday (May 1-2) in La Crosse.

UW-La Crosse totaled 215.83 points to claim its 25th straight title.  UW-Whitewater placed second with 124, UW-Eau Claire was third with 120.5, and UW-Stout was fourth with 114, and UW-Stevens Point rounded out the top five with 90.

The lone event win for the Titans came in the 1,600-meter relay.  Kallen Bentz, Dan Trimner, Reid Zanoya, and Brian Beaudo combined for the 3.13.87 winning time.

UW-Oshkosh acquired four third-place efforts. Beaudo raced to 48.34 seconds in the 400-meter dash, Trimner 53.76 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, Roberto Lara ran 3:55.72 in the 1,500-meter run. The 400-meter relay produced a time of 42.07 seconds.

Fourth-places finishes were registered by Scott Heinz with a 158-11 mark in the discus and Mike Heinz with a toss of 177-3 in the hammer throw.

Naji Allan sprinted to fifth-place finishes in the 100-meter dash at 10.49 seconds and the 200-meter dash at 21.45.

Other fifth places performances came from Kevin Caufield in the decathlon with 6,109 points and Nick Grosskopf with a shot put of 52-9 1/2.

Grosskopf added a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw with toss of 175-3.  Mike Heinz was sixth in two events, the discus and shot put with distances of 156-8 and 51-9 respectively.

The Titan 3,200-meter relay placed sixth in 7:50.00.

A trio of athletes finished with seventh-place performances that included Bentz in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.23 seconds, Roberto Lara with an 800-meter run of 1:57.11 and Derek Johnsrud with a 5,000-meter run of 15:35.77.

Eighth-place finishes were earned by Kenny Halloran with a time of 3:59.93 in the 1,500-meter run, Ryne Scopp with a time of 32:15.09 in the 10,000-meter run and Devan Gertschen with a height of 15-1 1/2 in the pole vault.

UW-Oshkosh competes in the Keeler Qualifier and UW-La Crosse Eagle Open next weekend.
