Titans Finish Second In WIAC Triangular

UW-Oshkosh won five events and finished second with 190 points in a WIAC triangular on Saturday (Feb. 14) in Whitewater.

Host UW-Whitewater won the meet with 249 points while UW-Stevens Point finished third with 68.

UW-Oshkosh's Brian Beaudo led the way in the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.49 seconds, Justin Skinkis won the 800-meter run in 1:56.96, Bennett Krueger paced the mile run for a winning time of 4:44.92, and Mike Heinz with a leading toss of 54-3 3/4 in the 35 pound weight throw.

Dan Trimner, Kallen Bentz, Beaudo, and Skinkis ran against the clock for a 1,600-meter relay time of 3:28.27.

Three UW-Oshkosh performances that finished second involved Nathan Nozzi running the mile in 4:50.27, Roberto Lara completing the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:35.15, and Zachary Baehman with a shot put of 54-2 1/2.

Nine marks achieved third-place finishes for the Titans.

On the track, Nolan Peterson sprinted to the 60-meter dash finish in 7.13 seconds, Mitch Pauers worked for a 1:59.34 time in the 800-meter run, Kyle Peotter ran a under 5 minute, 4:59.92, time in the mile run, Joe Zack compiled a 8:46.72 time in the 3,000-meter run, and Bentz raced the 200-meter dash in 22.89 seconds.

In the field, Devan Gertschen had a pole vault of 14-2 3/4, Dominic Ebube had a triple jump distance of 43-8 1/2. Nick Grosskopf was third in both throwing events with throws of 53-9 1/4 in the shot put and 53-5 1/2 in the weight throw.

The two mentions placing fourth included Charlie Scott with a 23.23 second time in the 200-meter dash and Kevin Caufield reaching the 13-9 bar in the pole vault.

The fifth-place finishers comprised of Jaron Olson's 60-meter dash of 7.21 seconds, Derrick Rufer running the 200-meter dash in 1:59.87, and Mike Heinz with a 50-6 3/4 shot put, Scott Heinz with 51-foot toss in the weight throw. Ebube finished with a 6-1 1/2 high jump and a 21-4 long jump.

The final sixth-place listings for UW-Oshkosh in the sixth place were Ryan Paulick with a put of 49-9 3/4 in the shot put and Trimner completing the 400-meter dash in 51.79 seconds.

UW-Oshkosh also had two men compete in the University of St. Thomas Showcase on Friday (Feb. 13).

Derek Johnsrud covered 5,000-meter run in 14:57.06 and Skinkis ran the 800-meter run 2:03.13.

The Titans will spilt and be at two meets on Feb. 21, the Titan Challenge in Kolf Sports Center and the Pointer Invitational in Stevens Point.
