Warhawks Prove Their Ranking In Win Over Titans

UW-Whitewater survived a scare at No. 1 doubles and went on to record a 9-0 victory over the UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team on Friday (April 17) in Eau Claire.

The Warhawks, ranked 25th in the NCAA Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, won the competitive No. 1 doubles match as Rethwik Rajshekhar Raman and Michael Scharr outlasted Mike Gillespie and Aidan Sauberlich, 9-8 (7-3).

UW-Whitewater (17-7) took the remaining doubles contests on wins by Martin Beck and Scott Butler in the second flight and Matt Bisbee and Zane Navratil in the third. Beck and Butler defeated Vincent Gorski and Adam Martin, 8-3, while Bisbee and Navratil ousted David LaGrange and Logan Zastrow, 8-2.

The Warhawks didn't lose more than two games in any set as they controlled the singles competition.

Rajshekhar Raman earned the win at No. 1 singles with his 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Gillespie.

At No. 4 singles, Schnarr won all 12 games and posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Zastrow.

Other individual winners for UW-Whitewater were Navratil in the second flight, Ben Shklyar in the third, Bisbee in the fifth and Matt Zurowski in the sixth.

Navratil defeated Sauberlich, 6-1, 6-1, while Shklyar ousted Martin, 6-0, 6-2. Bisbee and Zurowski won by 6-2, 6-1 scores over David Leffler and La Grange, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh (6-12) remains in Eau Claire for matches on Saturday (April 18) against UW-Eau Claire and UW-La Crosse.
