Titans Dealt Losses by Warhawks, Foresters

UW-Oshkosh lost men's tennis matches to both UW-Whitewater and Lake Forest College (Ill.) on Saturday (Feb. 7) in Elkhorn.

UW-Whitewater, ranked 25th in the NCAA Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, swept UW-Oshkosh, 9-0, in the opener before Lake Forest College defeated the Titans, 6-3, in the nightcap.

In singles play against UW-Whitewater, Mike Gillespie in the first flight, Aidan Sauberlich in the second and David Leffler in the sixth each won three games for the Titans. Gillespie lost a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Jake Humphreys, while Sauberlich and Leffler lost by 6-1, 6-2 results to Zane Navratil and Justin Bowman, respectively.

UW-Whitewater (1-3) took the remaining three individual contests, including Cam Laktash's 6-1, 6-0 win over Vincent Gorski in the third flight and Matt Zurowski's 6-0, 6-1 victory over David La Grange in the fourth. The Warhawks' Matt Bisbee won by a 6-2, 6-0 result over Adam Martin in the fifth flight.

In doubles action, Gillespie and Sauberlich lost in the first flight by an 8-4 score to the UW-Whitewater tandem of Ben Shklyar and Michael Treis. The Warhawks recorded 8-1 victories in the other two flights as Martin Beck and Scott Butler defeated Gorski and Martin in the second while Rajshekhar Raman and Michael Schnarr ousted La Grange and Austin Laumb in the third.

Against Lake Forest College, UW-Oshkosh (0-4) built an early 2-1 lead on wins from Gillespie and Sauberlich at No. 1 doubles and Gorski and Martin at No. 3. Gillespie and Sauberlich defeated Dan Pivonka and Mike Riley, 8-2, while Gorski and Martin edged Nick Rehm and Dragan Trivanovic, 9-7.

The Foresters (1-1) won the No. 3 doubles contest as Ellis Lora-Arceo and Jordan Stoler slipped past La Grange and Laumb, 9-7.

UW-Oshkosh's lone individual win against Lake Forest College came from Gillespie in the second flight. He defeated Riley by a 6-1, 6-0 score.

Four of the remaining five individual contests ended in straight-set victories for the Foresters. The lone exception was Trivanovic's 5-7, 6-1 (10-5) win over Martin in the fifth flight.

Lake Forest College picked up its other wins from Pivonka in the first flight, Lora-Arceo in the third, John Snider in the fourth and Rehm in the sixth. Pivonka defeated Sauberlich, 6-3, 6-2, while Lora-Arceo ousted Gorski, 6-0, 6-2. Snider beat La Grange, 6-1, 6-2 and Rehm outlasted Logan Zastrow, 6-4, 6-4.

UW-Oshkosh plays next Saturday (Feb. 14) in Michigan against Kalamazoo College and Albion College.
