Titans Defeat Pioneers For Fourth Straight Win

UW-Oshkosh won its fourth straight match with an 8-1 victory over the Carroll University men's tennis team on Saturday (March 8) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

The Titans (8-3) jumped ahead of the Pioneers (1-7) by sweeping the doubles competition. Winning by 8-1 scores were Mike Gillespie and Aidan Sauberlich over Quentin Lamers and Eric Schneider in the second flight and Jason Alexander and Matt Brooks over Alexander Reid and Nick Schultz in the third.

At No. 1 doubles, UW-Oshkosh's Bobby Brooks and Kevin Lewis marked an 8-6 victory over Jack Michael and Matthew Michael.

Alexander posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Schneider in the fifth flight for the Titans' easiest individual triumph. In the fourth flight, Sauberlich earned the victory after Schultz retired in the second set of their contest.

UW-Oshkosh had Lewis, Gillespie and Alex Yang win a tiebreaker during singles play. Lewis scored a 1-6, 6-1 (10-8) victory over Matthew Michael in the second flight, while Gillespie recorded a 3-6, 6-0 (10-8) triumph over Lamers in the third. Yang won by a 3-6, 7-5 (10-4) decision over Sawyer Dargiewicz in the sixth flight.

The lone Carroll University team point came at No. 1 singles, where Jack Michael defeated Bobby Brooks, 6-0, 6-4.   

UW-Oshkosh travels to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to battle Augustana College (Ill.) and host Coe College on Saturday (March 15).
