Titans Split Matches With Red Men, Raiders

Kevin Lewis went unbeaten in both singles and doubles play as the UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday (March 1) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

UW-Oshkosh (5-3) lost a 7-2 decision to Carthage College (8-2) before registering a 9-0 victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering (2-7). The shutout of the Raiders was the Titans' fourth of the season.

Lewis opened the day by teaming with Bobby Brooks to defeat Carthage College's No. 1 doubles squad of Alex Boomgarden and Pawel Jaworski, 8-1. Lewis then rolled past the Red Men's Ryan Jump by a 6-1, 6-1 result at No. 2 singles.

Against the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Lewis and Brooks tallied an 8-4 win over Zachary Dam and Matt Slaughter at No. 1 doubles. Lewis concluded his activity for the day with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over the Raiders' David Gorodetsky at No. 2 singles.

Carthage College won three of the remaining five singles contests in straight sets, including Tony O'Connell's 6-0, 6-0 victory over Alex Yang in the fifth flight. The Red Men also acquired a 6-4, 6-1 win from Chris Conley over Jason Alexander in the fourth flight and a 6-1, 6-1 triumph from Alex Ferruzzi over Adam Martin in the sixth.

Winning on a tiebreaker for Carthage College were Boomgarden at No. 1 singles and Jaworski at No. 3 singles. Boomgarden edged Bobby Brooks, 4-6, 7-6 (8), (10-8), while Jaworski outlasted Aidan Sauberlich, 7-5, 4-6, (10-6).

The Red Men won twice in doubles play as Conley and Jump defeated Martin Sauberlich, 8-4, in the second flight, while O'Connell and Conor Moon ousted Alexander and Matt Brooks, 8-3 in the third.

UW-Oshkosh had little trouble during its match with the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The Titans won every singles contest in straight sets, including Yang's 6-0, 6-0 victory over Tyler Haanen in the fifth flight.

Other individual winners besides Lewis and Yang against the Raiders were Bobby Brooks in the first flight, Sauberlich in the third, Alexander in the fourth and Martin in the sixth.

Bobby Brooks posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Dam, while Sauberlich notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Reekah Delfanian and Alexander a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over John Price. Martin won by a 6-1, 6-2 result over Kyle Fassbender.

The Titans defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering twice by 8-3 scores in doubles play. Victorious for UW-Oshkosh were Martin and Sauberlich over Price and Tom Smith in the second flight and Alexander and Matt Brooks over Delfanian and Gorodetsky in the third.

UW-Oshkosh will host Saint Mary's University (Minn.) on Sunday (March 2) in Kohler (Kohler Tennis Center).
