Wilke Repeats As NCAA Championship Qualifier

UW-Oshkosh junior Matt Wilke will dive on the national stage for the second consecutive year following his two top five finishes at the NCAA Division III Region 1 Championship held Friday and Saturday (Feb. 28-29) in Granville, Ohio.

Wilke competed against 20 other regional divers and placed third with 438.50 points off the 3-meter board and fifth with 424.10 off the 1-meter plank.

Wilke will now represent the Titans at the Division III Championship on March 18-21 in Greensboro, N.C. Last year he finished 13th nationally in the 3-meter category with 458.30 points and 16th in the 1-meter section with 407.30.

UW-Eau Claire's Dylan Glumac-Berberich swept this year's two regional titles with scores of 504.45 off the 1- and 531.05 off the 3-meter boards.

Andrew Chen of the University of Chicago (Ill.) finished second to Glumac-Berberich in the 1-meter category with 471.50 points while William Simmons of Denison University (Ohio) placed third with 439.15 and Logan Sherwin of the University of Chicago fourth with 431.90.

In the three-meter department, Sherwin finished second to Glumac-Berberich with 469.30 points, Jack Grabinski of Saint John's University (Minn.) fourth with 425.75 and Simmons fifth with 422.10.

Last year at the Region 1 Championships Wilke scored 440.55 points among 21 1-meter contestants and 457.90 among 19 3-meter participants.

Other Division III regional diving championships were held this weekend at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas (Region 2); Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. (Region 3); and Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y. (Region 4). Each of the four regions had at least two of the 24 qualifiers per diving category for the national championship.

This season Wilke finished second in both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions at the WIAC Championship with respective scores of 521.20 and 522.25. He also placed second in both diving events at 2018 league championship and was a second-place finisher off the 1-meter board and a third-place finisher off the 3-meter plank at the 2017 conference meet.
