Titans Easily Defeat Red Hawks

Jarrett Lieder and Jack Miller each contributed a pair of first-place finishes to help the UW-Oshkosh men's swimming & diving team defeat Ripon College, 115-54, on Saturday (Feb. 1) in Ripon.

Lieder won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:53.03 and the 1,000-yard freestyle with a swim of 10:17.17 while Miller earned winning performances of 1:50.83 in the 200-yard freestyle and 53.89 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly. They both joined Andrew Park and Josiah Vandenberg for a first-place time of 1:31.73 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Vandenberg supplied a first-place time of 2:10.41 in the 200-yard individual medley and a second-place swim of 57.07 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly for the Titans while Park added a second-place time of 51.28 seconds in the 100- and a third-place result of 23.81 seconds in the 50-yard freestyles.

UW-Oshkosh's Alex Jernberg won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.62 and finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 11:13.54. He also helped David Bain, Cody Else and Matt Holst register a winning time of 1:49.58 in the 200-yard medley relay.

Bain earned the Titans' remaining first-place finish with his time of 58.53 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke while Else ranked second in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 1,000-yard freestyle with times of 1:06.88 and 11:23.33, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh also received a third-place time of 2:09.69 in the 200-yard freestyle from Jarod Falk and a fourth-place time of 26.50 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle from Holst.

The Titans won nine of the meet's 11 events. The only victories for the Red Hawks came from Ethan Ripp in the 50-yard freestyle and Ben Chambers in the 100-yard freestyle.

While UW-Oshkosh's swimmers were competing in Ripon, Titan Matt Wilke was diving Saturday at the University of Illinois at Chicago Invitational.

Thirteen NCAA Division I and III divers comprised the field of competitors. No team scores were kept at the meet.

Wilke finished third in the 3-meter category with a score of 311.00 and eighth in the 1-meter section with a figure of 258.80.

Felix Lafortune of NCAA Division I University of Illinois at Chicago won both diving events with scores of 327.55 off the 1-meter board and 360.15 off the 3-meter plank.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it participates at the WIAC Championship on Feb. 13-15 at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer. UW-Oshkosh finished fifth at last year's championship with 311 points.
