Titans Finish Second At Gene Davis Invitartional, Own Five Event Winners

UW-Oshkosh won five events, including two by both Jack Miller and Matt Wilke, as it finished second among six teams at the Lawrence University Gene Davis Men's Swimming & Diving Invitational held Saturday (Nov. 16) in Appleton.

Miller recorded victories in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly with times of 22.32 and 53.76 seconds, respectively. He also posted a second-place time of 17:08.72 in the 1,650-yard freestyle while swimming with Michael Gerondale, Jarrett Lieder and Andrew Park for a second-place performance of 3:22.66 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Wilke was the meet's top diver after posting winning scores of 471.95 off the 1-meter board and 486.35 off the 3-meter plank.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining victory belonged to Lieder in the 200-yard freestyle. He won the event with a time of 1:48.44 while finishing fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle at 17:17.43.

Alex Jernberg added a pair of fourth-place finishes and a fifth-place result for the Titans. He recorded fourth-place times of 1:06.48 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 5:09.86 in the 500-yard freestyle and a fifth-place swim of 18:01.26 in the 1,650-yard freestyle.

UW-Oshkosh's David Bain contributed a third-place time of 1:01.11 in the 100-yard backstroke and a fourth-place effort of 2:14.97 in the 200-yard backstroke.

Josiah Vandenberg owned UW-Oshkosh's three remaining fifth-place finishes with his times of 2:14.28 in the 200-yard butterfly, 2:12.68 in the 200-yard individual medley and 4:47.60 in the 400-yard individual medley.

Lieder finished second and Cody Else sixth in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 4:58.51 and 5:29.43, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh finished second in the team standings with 482 points. Lake Forest College (Ill.) claimed the team title with 668 points while Lawrence University placed third with 392 and Beloit College fourth with 329.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the three-day Carthage College Classic on Dec. 5-7 in Kenosha.
