Titans Suffer Narrow Defeat To Vikings

Jarrett Lieder won two swimming events and swam on a first-place relay while Matt Wilke captured a pair of diving victories during UW-Oshkosh's narrow 98-96 loss to the Lawrence University men's swimming & diving team Saturday (Jan. 5) in Albee Hall.

Lieder earned his individual wins with freestyle times of 5:00.65 at 500 yards and 10:21.03 at 1,000. He then helped the group of Cody Else, Case Geidl and Ian Sewell record a winning time of 1:33.69 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Wilke became the meet's top diver after accumulating winning scores of 276.20 off the 1-meter board and 324.15 off the 3-meter plank.

UW-Oshkosh had two other event winners as Geidl won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.74 seconds and Sewell the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.54.

Alex Jernberg was involved in a trio of second-place listings for the Titans. He swam to times of 1:05.67 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 10:41.64 in the 1,000-yard freestyle while aiding Geidl, David Bain and Matt Holst to a time of 1:48.84 in the 200-yard medley relay.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining second-place listings belonged to Bain with a time of 1:00.59 in the 100-yard backstroke and Sewell in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.17. Bain also finished third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:19.73.

Else gave the Titans two more top-four finishes with his third-place performance of 1:10.03 in the 100-yard breaststroke and fourth-place effort of 11:45.96 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

UW-Oshkosh's Holst added a fourth-place swim of 27.43 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle.

Next Saturday (Jan. 12), UW-Oshkosh will send its swimmers to Beloit for a meet with Beloit and St. Norbert colleges and its divers to Decorah, Iowa, for the Luther College Invitational.
