Pioneers Spoil Titans' Home Opener

The UW-Oshkosh men's swimming and diving team splashed in its home water for the first time this season on Saturday (Nov. 1) and the result was a 115-102 loss to Carroll University.

UW-Oshkosh won six of the 12 events, including three at freestyle distances of 50, 500 and 1,000 yards.

Tyler Shircel was the Titans' lone multiple winner. He swam to first-place times of 2:08.09 in the 200-yard individual medley and 5:16.33 in the 500-yard freestyle.

UW-Oshkosh's Myles Taylor won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.08 and Grady Hilgendorf the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:23.14. Both swimmers also recorded a second-place effort, with Taylor posting a time of 57.56 in the 100-yard butterfly and Hilgendorf a mark of 5:23.22 in the 500-yard freestyle.

Other event winners for the Titans were Andrew Doyle and Zach Hogan. Doyle won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.41, while Hogan finished first in the 100-yard backstroke with a swim of 58.46.

Earning second-place finishes for UW-Oshkosh were Andrew Bores in the 100-yard freestyle (53.75), Jacob Casper in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:54.14) and Val Mikitchik in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.02).

The Titans also recorded second-place times of 1:46.36 in the 200-yard medley relay and 1:36.03 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Finishing third for UW-Oshkosh were Bores in the 50-yard freestyle (24.21), Casper in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.57), Hogan in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.15) and Brandon Davison in the 100-yard freestyle (55.13).

UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts UW-Whitewater on Nov. 14 in Albee Hall.
