Titans To Play For Title Of WIAC Championship

UW-Oshkosh will host the title game of the WIAC Men's Soccer Championship following its 2-0 semifinal round victory over UW-Platteville on Wednesday (Nov. 5) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The Titans (13-5-2) scored once in each half to earn the right to host UW-Whitewater at 6 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 7). The Warhawks advanced to the final with their 1-0 victory over UW-Superior. UW-Whitewater scored the winning goal with just five seconds left in regulation.

Nick Gonzales put the Titans ahead with his second goal of the season in the 6th minute (5:45). Gonzales received a pass from Jonathan Stanley and made a few moves to get into position before finding the back of the net from 18 yards.

Javier Simon marked his team-leading ninth goal of the year in the 47th minute (46:28). Simon's insurance goal was a 13-yard blast off an assist by Trent Allison.

The Titans and Pioneers both took 10 shots in the game. UW-Oshkosh's shots were spread among seven players, including two apiece by Gonzales, Simon, and Michael Dugan.

Six different Pioneers attempted shots, including Brad Streich's team-high three and Jake Olk's two.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Sam Gabrilska saved four shots for fifth shutout of the season. Gabrilska lowered his WIAC-leading goals-against average to 0.52.

UW-Platteville (6-11-3) had two players spilt time in goal, with Cristin Flores playing the first half and Ryan Bergen the second. Both allowed one goal with Bergen collecting four saves.

UW-Platteville took six corner kicks and UW-Oshkosh five.

The Titans, who also ousted UW-Platteville in last year's WIAC semifinals, won their fourth straight over UW-Platteville.
