Top Seed Titans To Host Pioneers In WIAC Semifinal

In a rematch of last year's semifinal, UW-Oshkosh will again host UW-Platteville in the semifinal round of the WIAC Men's Soccer Championship.

This year's meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 5) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh (12-5-2) earned the top seed for the WIAC Championship by going 3-0-1 in its four league games during the regular season. The Titans secured the top listing with Sunday's (Nov. 2) 1-1, double-overtime tie with UW-Whitewater.

UW-Platteville (6-10-3) is seeded fourth in the four-team tournament. The Pioneers posted a 1-3 record against its WIAC opponents during the regular season.

UW-Oshkosh, which has already clinched its 30th consecutive winning season, has gone 8-1-1 in its last 10 matches. The lone defeat was a 1-0 setback to the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Oct. 5.

The Titans have outscored their opponents, 35-11, this season. UW-Oshkosh owns 11 shutouts and has allowed just one goal in its last six matches.

UW-Platteville has lost its last two matches and six of its last eight. The two victories were 1-0 decisions over eighth-ranked Loras College (Iowa) on Oct. 15 and Coe College (Iowa) on Oct. 21.

UW-Oshkosh has won its last three games with UW-Platteville, including a 2-0 decision on Oct. 26. The Titans posted a 2-1, double-overtime victory over the Pioneers in last year's WIAC Championship.    

Another semifinal scheduled for Wednesday has third-seed UW-Superior (9-9-1) visiting second-seed UW-Whitewater (12-3-4).

Wednesday's winners will play at 6 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 7) in the championship match. The highest remaining seed will host the title game.

UW-Superior won last year's inaugural WIAC Championship with a 2-1 victory over UW-Oshkosh.
