Titans, Tommies End With A Deadlock

UW-Oshkosh played to its third consecutive tie with a 1-1 decision against the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) men's soccer team on Friday (Sept. 13) in Kimberly.

The University of St. Thomas tied the score, 1-1, on a 30-yard free kick by Miles Stockman-Willis with less than 18 minutes remaining. It was the first goal allowed by UW-Oshkosh, ranked 14th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, this season.

Late in the first half, UW-Oshkosh's Tanner Freund had his shot deflected by University of St. Thomas goalkeeper Mitchell Wolff. Jan Nachtigall retrieved the ball and then had his shot blocked by Wolff. Nachtigall got the ball back and this time fired a shot into the net to give the Titans a 1-0 lead during the 44th minute (43:08) of play.

UW-Oshkosh (3-0-3) attempted four shots during the two overtime periods, while the University of St. Thomas (3-1-1) launched three. The Titans marked an 18-8 advantage in shots overall.

Nachtigall, Elias Efthimiou and Jacob Hernandez each took three shots for UW-Oshkosh. Mark Heydt led the Tommies with three shots.

Wolff totaled 12 saves for the match and UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Sam Gabrilska three.

The University of St. Thomas posted a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

The match, which featured an attendance of 429, was played at Kimberly High School as a way to promote college soccer to youths in the northern Fox Valley area.

UW-Oshkosh returns to J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 15) to host Wartburg College (Iowa).
