Fravert Named District Player Of The Year, Flynn Chosen To Second Team
UW-Oshkosh senior forward Adam Fravert received NCAA Division III men's basketball Central District Player of the Year honors while Titans senior center Jack Flynn was selected to the All-Central District Second Team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Fravert, UW-Oshkosh's second straight and fourth overall NABC District Player of the Year, is now eligible for national Player of the Year honors. The Titans' previous District Players of the Year were Dennis Ruedinger in 1996, Tim Dworak in 2002 and Ben Boots in 2019.
Flynn was named to the NABC All-Central District Second Team for the second year in a row as 11 UW-Oshkosh players have combined for 18 NABC All-District awards in program history.
The 2020 NABC All-Central District First Team also included Trent Jones from Ripon College, Jack Nolan from Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.), Connor Raridon from North Central College (Ill.), Jake Rhode from Elmhurst College (Ill.) and Carter Voelker from UW-Platteville.
Joining Flynn on the NABC All-Central District Second Team were Andrew Bruggink from Wisconsin Lutheran College, Josh Johnson from Webster University (Mo.), Cole Rabedeaux from UW-Eau Claire and Pierson Wofford from Augustana College (Ill.).
UW-Platteville's Jeff Gard was tabbed NABC's NCAA Division III Central District Coach of the Year.
Fravert finished his senior campaign leading the conference in rebounding, made 3-pointers, blocks and double-doubles. Starting all 29 games this season, Fravert scored in double figures 27 times, including a career-high 37-point effort on 15 of 23 shooting from the field with eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks against LaGrange College (Ga.) on Dec. 30. He had 32 points and 11 rebounds at UW-Platteville on Jan. 29, and 30 points at Emory University (Ga.) on Dec. 29. Emory University ranked second and UW-Platteville 15th nationally by D3hoops.com at the time.
Fravert also had double-double performances this season of 14 points and 11 rebounds during the season opener at 17th-ranked Augustana College on Nov. 9, 25 points and 10 boards at Alma College (Mich.) on Dec. 6, and 22 points and 10 rebounds at Calvin University (Mich.) on Dec. 7 before producing seven straight and nine overall double-doubles against conference opponents.
Fravert's run of seven consecutive double-doubles against WIAC rivals began against UW-River Falls (28 points, 11 rebounds) on Jan. 18 and continued versus UW-Stevens Point (22 points, 10 rebounds) on Jan. 22, at UW-Whitewater (24 points, 10 rebounds) on Jan. 25, at 15th-ranked UW-Platteville (32 points, 11 rebounds) on Jan. 29, against UW-Eau Claire (18 points, 12 rebounds) on Feb. 5, at 18th-ranked UW-La Crosse (16 points, 12 rebounds) on Feb. 8, and at UW-Stevens Point (12 points, 11 rebounds) on Feb. 12.
Fravert then recorded double-doubles of 23 points and 13 rebounds in the WIAC tournament semifinals against 20th-ranked UW-La Crosse on Feb. 27, and 16 points and 14 rebounds versus UW-Eau Claire during the WIAC Championship title game Feb. 29. Fravert had 12 points and a season-best 15 rebounds in the Titans' 74-58 win over Transylvania University (Ky.) during the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship on March 6.
Fravert is a three-time All-WIAC selection, garnering Co-Player of the Year honors in 2020 and First Team accolades in 2019 since being named to the league's Honorable Mention Team in 2018. He concluded his 115-game career ranked second in program history with 158 blocks, third with 802 rebounds, fourth with 312 assists and 11th with 1,459 points.
Flynn ended his senior season averaging 16.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game to go along with a .544 field goal percentage and a team-leading 108 made free throws. He led the WIAC with 93 offensive rebounds while ranking second in the league in total rebounds (192), fourth in field goal percentage and rebounds per game, and fifth in scoring and blocks (22).
Flynn had 25 double-digit scoring performances this season, including each of the Titans' last 16 games. He scored a season-best 29 points on 11 of 14 shooting from the floor during a win in the opening round of the Division III Championship against Transylvania University. Flynn had 25 points against UW-Eau Claire on Feb. 5, 24 points and a season-high 12 rebounds versus UW-La Crosse in the WIAC Championship semifinals Feb. 27, and 23 points with 10 boards at 11th-ranked North Central College during the second round of the national tournament March 7.
Flynn, who produced a total of three double-doubles this year, had 17 points with 11 rebounds at UW-Stout on Jan. 11. He also scored 20 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the field at UW-Stevens Point on Feb. 12 and registered 20 points against 15th-ranked UW-La Crosse on Jan. 4.
Flynn was selected to the All-WIAC First Team each of his last three years and received All-America Fourth Team honors from D3hoops.com in 2019. He finished his four seasons as the program's all-time leader with 122 games played while ranking second in school history with a .580 field goal percentage, fourth with 799 rebounds and ninth with 1,565 points.
Fravert and Flynn helped UW-Oshkosh to a 91-31 record, one WIAC postseason title and one league regular season championship in their four seasons. The Titans' 2019 WIAC regular season title was the program's first outright since 1978 while their 2020 postseason conference championship was the school's fourth.
UW-Oshkosh made four consecutive trips to the Division III Championship with Fravert and Flynn, beginning with a first-round appearance in 2017. The Titans then reached the national championship game in 2018 before securing the program's first Division III title in 2019 with a 96-82 victory over Swarthmore College (Pa.) as Flynn was voted Most Outstanding Player at the Final Four and Fravert was named to the five-member All-Tournament Team. UW-Oshkosh reached the second round of the national tournament this season, finishing the year with an 84-82 overtime setback at 11th-ranked North Central College on March 7.
