Titans Defeat Yellowjackets In Regular-Season Finale

Outstanding senior day performances by Dylan Wurtz and Jade Royston carried the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team to a 67-58 victory over UW-Superior on Saturday (Feb. 22) in Kolf Sports Center.

Wurtz and Royston, the lone seniors, each scored 15 points to lead the Titans.

After falling behind 6-0, UW-Oshkosh went on a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 14-8 lead.

The Titans started to cool off as the Yellowjackets crawled back into the game, jumping ahead 26-25 with 3:53 to play in the opening half. Wurtz answered by knocking down a three-pointer and giving UW-Oshkosh the lead again. The Titans led 32-26 at the break.

Alex Olson kicked off the scoring in the second half, driving hard to the basket, finishing and drawing a foul. A Wurtz three-ball put the Titans up 11 at 40-29 with 17 minutes remaining in the game.

The Yellowjackets responded, cutting the margin to two at 43-41. Royston hit a big triple before back-to-back UW-Superior baskets brought the game within one.

Kyle Bolger took over from there for UW-Oshkosh. Bolger scored the game's next seven points and put the Titans up 53-45. Bolger scored four of UW-Oshkosh's next seven points as the Titans led 60-50.

Bolger's 11 points was third on the Titans behind Wurtz and Royston. Olson also finished in double figures, tallying 10 points. In addition to his 15 points, Royston added six rebounds and five assists.

Jarrod Peterson scored a game-high 19 points for UW-Superior. The Yellowjackets also got double-digit scoring outputs from Zach Schradle and Aaron Corry with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Titans will be the sixth seed in the WIAC Tournament, starting with a matchup on Wednesday (Feb. 26) at UW-La Crosse. It is UW-Oshkosh's first appearance in the event since 2009.
