Titans Complete Season Sweep Of Falcons

UW-Oshkosh committed a season-low five turnovers and allowed just 37 percent shooting from the field during its 68-55 victory over the UW-River Falls men's basketball team on Saturday (Feb. 1) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh, which recorded its fourth straight game with nine or less turnovers, had three ball-handling miscues in the first half and only two in the second. UW-River Falls (7-13/2-9 WIAC) finished the contest with 16 turnovers.

AJ Mueller scored a career-high 16 points to lead four Titans in double-figure scoring. He also grabbed six rebounds while making 6-of-8 shots from the field and all four three throws.

Other double-figure scorers for UW-Oshkosh (9-10/4-6 WIAC) were Jade Royston, Alex Olson and Dylan Wurtz. Royston totaled 13 points, five rebounds and two assists, while Olson compiled 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Wurtz contributed 10 points and two rebounds.

Ollie White had a big game for UW-River Falls as he tallied 24 points and nine rebounds. He was 12-of-14 shooting from the free throw line.

The Falcons, who suffered their fourth straight loss to UW-Oshkosh, also received 15 points, three rebounds and three blocked shots from Ben Gresmer. Grant Erickson led UW-River Falls with six assists.

UW-Oshkosh fell behind 5-2 before scoring 18 of the next 21 points to take a 20-8 lead with 10:58 left in the first half. Down 25-14, UW-River Falls then scored 15 of the remaining 19 points to create a 29-29 tie at intermission. The Falcons' half-ending run featured eight points by White.

UW-River Falls continued their run in the second half as Gresmer hit a pair of three-point shots to put the Falcons up, 35-31. Wurtz then connected on a three-point shot of his own and Mueller a pair of free throws to put the Titans ahead for good at 36-35.

UW-Oshkosh led 43-42 before Wurtz swished another three-point shot and Kyle Bolger grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast for the lay-in and a free throw after being fouled. Bolger's toss from the charity stripe gave UW-Oshkosh a 49-42 advantage and a six-point swing in just 25 seconds of action.

Down 58-47, UW-River Falls scored seven straight points to cut its deficit to 58-54 with 4:28 left. The Titans answered the threat with six consecutive points to make the score 64-54 with 1:52 remaining. After a UW-River Falls free throw, UW-Oshkosh ended the game with four straight points.

UW-Oshkosh shot 42.6 percent (23-54) from the field and made 17-of-19 free throws (89.5 percent). The Titans made just five of their 20 three-point shots (25 percent).

UW-River Falls was 17-of-46 shooting from the field. The Falcons made six of their 19 three-point shots (31.6 percent) and 15 of their 21 free throws (71.4 percent).

The Titans remain in Kolf Sports Center to host UW-Platteville on Wednesday (Feb. 5).
