Titans Double Up Blugolds

Scoring runs of 16 consecutive points in the first half and 22 in the second helped the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team erupt for a 64-32 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday (Jan. 22) in Kolf Sports Center.

The margin of victory (32 points) was UW-Oshkosh's largest over UW-Eau Claire since a 113-69 triumph (44 points) in 1965. Wednesday's contest also marked the fewest points scored by a Blugold team against the Titans since 1938 (25 points).

UW-Oshkosh's string of points in the first half closed the period. The Blugolds (8-9/1-7 WIAC) jumped out to a 13-6 lead and held a 15-10 advantage with 8:35 left in the session.

The Titans then scored the next 16 points, including five by Jade Royston, to take a 26-15 lead to intermission. UW-Eau Claire missed its last 10 shots from the field and closed the first half shooting 18.5 percent (5-27).

UW-Oshkosh (7-9/3-5 WIAC) picked up right where it left off in the second half when Dylan Wurtz drained a three-point shot on the Titans' first possession. UW-Oshkosh went on to extend its lead to 40-23 with 11:31 remaining.

Following a three-pointer by Lewis Mau, UW-Oshkosh counted the next 22 points to take a 62-26 lead with 3:20 to play. Royston had seven points and Taylor Jansen five during the scoring spree, which featured the Blugolds missing all eight of their shots from the field.

Jansen came off the bench to post a career-high 13 points for UW-Oshkosh. The Titans also received 12 points, six rebounds and five assists from Royston and nine points and nine rebounds from AJ Mueller.

Jack Martinek led UW-Eau Claire in scoring with six points. The Blugolds also acquired five points and five rebounds from Kurtis Moody.

UW-Oshkosh finished the contest shooting 39.6 percent (21-53) from the field and 68.4 percent (13-19) from the free throw line. The Titans converted nine of their 17 three-point shots (52.9 percent) while totaling 41 rebounds and committing just eight turnovers.
