Titans Defeat Saints For Third Straight Win

An 18-5 scoring run late in the second half helped UW-Oshkosh pull away and defeat The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) men's basketball team, 78-58, on Saturday (Dec. 28) in Wisconsin Dells.

UW-Oshkosh (4-6) led 55-48 before scoring 18 of the next 23 points to take a 73-53 lead with 3:57 to play. Seven different Titans scored during the run, including Nick Olson who led the way with four points.

UW-Oshkosh owned a 36-34 lead at intermission. Following a tie at 38 early in the second half, the Titans scored 10 straight points to build a 48-38 advantage with 15:19 left. UW-Oshkosh led by double digits for the final nine minutes, including a 78-56 score with 32 seconds remaining.

The College of St. Scholastica (2-7) marked the first five points of the contest. UW-Oshkosh answered the early deficit with a 12-2 scoring run to take a 12-7 lead with 15:40 left in the opening period.

UW-Oshkosh opened up a 23-16 advantage before the Saints stormed back with eight consecutive points. Following ties at 26, 29 and 34, the Titans took their two-point halftime lead on free throws by Alex Olson and Dylan Wurtz.

Alex Olson led UW-Oshkosh in scoring with 18 points. He also tallied three assists, two rebounds and two steals.

The Titans received 12 points and three rebounds from Kyle Bolger, 10 points from Wurtz, eight points and eight rebounds from Paul Volkman and eight points, nine rebounds and five assists from Jade Royston.

The College of St. Scholastica, which is winless in seven meetings with UW-Oshkosh, was led by Andrew Laughlin's career-best 17 points. The Saints also obtained 13 points and eight rebounds from Trevor Morlock and five points and nine rebounds from Steve Golobich.

UW-Oshkosh posted shooting percentages of 44.8 (26-58) from the field, 37.5 (6-16) behind the three-point arc and 58.8 (20-34) from the free throw line. The Titans grabbed 38 rebounds and turned the basketball over eight times.

The College of St. Scholastica shot 43.8 percent (21-48) from the field, including 46.2 (6-13) from three-point range. The Saints converted 10-of-21 free throws (47.6 percent) while totaling 36 rebounds and 19 turnovers.

UW-Oshkosh remains in Wisconsin Dells to battle 13th-ranked Augustana College (Ill.) on Sunday (Dec. 29).
