Four Titans To Be Honored At WFCA All-State Banquet

The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association will honor the UW-Oshkosh WIAC co-champion football team's four league award winners at a banquet in Green Bay's Lambeau Field Atrium on Jan. 26.

UW-Oshkosh's Pat Cerroni, the WIAC Coach of the Year, will be honored along with Titans defensive line coach and WIAC Assistant Coach of the Year Mark Angeletti, sophomore kicker/punter and Special Teams Player of the Year Jaydon Haag, and freshman quarterback and Newcomer of the Year Kobe Berghammer.

The WFCA banquet will recognize the 2019 All-State high school football players in addition to award winners in Wisconsin's collegiate conferences.

Cerroni led UW-Oshkosh to a share of the WIAC title and a trip to the NCAA Division III Championship this past fall despite the program being projected to finish third in the conference standings in a preseason poll of the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Cerroni guided the Titans to an 8-3 record, including a 6-1 conference mark that earned UW-Oshkosh a portion of the league title with UW-Whitewater.

Cerroni is the winningest coach in the 125-year history of the UW-Oshkosh football program. The Johnson Creek native won his 100th career game with a 31-3 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 19 and boasts a 103-42 record during his 13 seasons at the helm of the Titans. Cerroni, a Carroll University graduate, has coached UW-Oshkosh to a winning record during each of the past nine seasons.

This past year the Titans made their fifth appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship – all under Cerroni – and first since reaching the semifinals in 2017. Cerroni, who owns a 12-5 record in the NCAA postseason, also coached UW-Oshkosh to the Division III title game in 2016, the semifinals in 2012 and the quarterfinals in 2015.

Angeletti's defensive line helped UW-Oshkosh rank among the top 10 teams in the country with 3.91 sacks per game in 2019 while leading the conference by allowing 182.7 passing yards per contest. The Titans collected at least two sacks during each game this past season, including a season-best eight against UW-Eau Claire and seven against Carthage College in the season opener Sept. 7.

Angeletti, who completed his 13th season with UW-Oshkosh and fifth straight leading the defensive line, has helped Titan defensive linemen receive nine All-WIAC First Team honors over the past five years.

The Derby, Conn., native is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University.

Haag, a sophomore, led Division III with a 1.000 field goal percentage, connecting on each of his 12 field goal attempts during the 2019 season.

Haag took over Titan field goal kicking duties during the fourth game of the season, when he converted a pair of field goals in a 26-23 UW-Oshkosh win over UW-Stout on Oct. 5, including a game-winning 42-yarder in the fourth quarter.

The Sparta High School graduate made four field goals longer than 40 yards this past fall, including a season-long 49-yard kick in the Titans' 27-20 victory over UW-Whitewater in the regular season finale Nov. 16.

Haag also averaged 35.4 yards per punt in 2019, placing 18 of his 55 kicks inside the opponents' 20-yard line, and converted 27 of 30 extra points. His longest punt of the season was a 67-yard kick against UW-Whitewater.

Berghammer finished his freshman season ranked among the top six WIAC players in both passing and rushing yards after taking over as UW-Oshkosh's starting quarterback during the third game of the 2019 campaign.

Berghammer completed 138 of 273 passes for 1,700 yards and 14 touchdowns this past fall while adding 133 carries for a team-leading 706 yards and nine scores.

Berghammer, who passed for 290 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a relief role against Salisbury University (Md.) on Sept. 14, rushed for 100 or more yards four times this season, including a season-best 177 yards and two touchdowns on the ground against UW-River Falls on Nov. 9.

The Cumberland High School graduate also passed for 226 yards and three touchdowns against Huntingdon College (Ala.) in his first career start on Sept. 21 while rushing for 102 yards and three scores against UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 19.
